African and Afro-Brazilian culture in focus during Black Awareness Month

The month of November has become a reference for discussions and training of education professionals regarding African and Afro-Brazilian history and culture.. Then, at the invitation of education professionals, Professor Dr.. Mírian Cristina de Moura, professor of the Master's Program in Human Development-MDH, was at EMEF Profa. Luzia de Castro Mittidieri, of Guaratinguetá-SP and the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul, Três Lagoas campus, to contribute to this rich debate. At EMEF Profa. Luzia de Castro Mittidieri, the teacher, was accompanied by her student Larissa Oliveira Casemiro da Rocha, master's student at MDH.

The teacher of the Master's in Human Development is a specialist in Afro-Brazilian and African History, and has defended the need to expand the dialogue between the knowledge produced in universities regarding the topic and school teaching. Like this, reiterating the obligation defined by the Law 10.538 from 2003, which amended the National Bases Guidelines Law and defined the introduction of Afro-Brazilians and Africans into the school curriculum, as well as the 20 November as the date of Black Consciousness to be discussed at school and with society.

Within the scope of MDH Profa. Mirian Garrido coordinates the IdentidadeS Project: past and present, to which Larissa Rocha's research is linked. This is a project in partnership with the Public Ministry of the State of São Paulo, through Prosecutor José Carlos de Oliveira Sampaio, which seeks to develop studies on the History of enslaved African populations in Brazil, of their descendants and indigenous populations, at national and regional level (Metropolitan Region of Vale do Paraíba); and make these studies products accessible to society, via short film production, podcast, exhibitions, visiting itineraries, teaching materials, books and scientific articles, courses and lectures for teachers and the community in general, and other products that are considered viable in the research process and in contact with local communities
