Master's student in Applied Linguistics at UFBA, Gabi Kariri, works in the teaching and study of indigenous languages, with emphasis on the languages of the Tupi trunk

The University of Taubaté (UNITAU) receive, this Friday (27), at 4:30 p.m., the indigenous researcher Gabi Kariri for a meeting with students and participants from the Center for Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous Studies (STUPID). The activity will be carried out at the Department of Social Sciences and Education, on Rua Visconde do Rio Branco, 22 – Center, Taubaté/SP.
Master's student in Applied Linguistics from the Postgraduate Program in Language and Culture at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), Gabi Kariri develops research focused on indigenous didactics in teacher training, focusing on linguistic recovery and ethnic-racial education.
Belonging to Kariri ethnicity, the researcher works in the teaching and study of indigenous languages, with an emphasis on the languages of the Tupi trunk and the resumption of the Dzubukuá-Kipeá language. Its work includes the production of teaching materials, in addition to holding workshops and lectures on decolonial education and appreciation of original cultures.
Graduated in Literature (Português) from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Gabi Kariri has also developed research with support from CNPq and the Portuguese Language Museum, expanding its activities in the field of indigenous languages and pedagogical practices.
During the meeting, the researcher will address the topic “Indigenous influences on the language, Brazilian culture and literature”, promoting reflection on the presence and importance of original knowledge in the country’s cultural formation.
The activity is organized by NEABI, nucleus linked to the Master's Program in Human Development and the History course at UNITAU, and aims to expand the academic debate on diversity, inclusion and ethnic-racial education.
In addition to academic work, Gabi Kariri also develops literary projects, as a children's book “Chocolate with Cashew – Xocolatl sembohó Akaîu”, which integrates elements of original languages and contributes to the valorization of indigenous identities. The event is open to the academic community.
