Master's Program in Human Development holds event on natural disasters

In day 13 June 2023 the Master's Program in Human Development held an Interdisciplinary Seminar to address the issue of natural disasters. The event was held remotely in partnership between MDH and Prof. Dr. Leandro Roberto Neves, from the Fluminense Federal University.

At the event, the work “The place of disaster and the disasters of places” was presented and discussed.: Introduction to the study of disasters in the current context”, organized by Prof. Leandro Neves.

The book “The place of disaster and the disasters of places: Introduction to the study of the meanings of disasters in the current context” is a didactic collection that addresses the paradigms of contemporary disasters and presents analyzes of some populations and situations of social and economic vulnerability, considering the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and the acceleration of anthropogenic and natural disasters on planet Earth. The book was organized by Prof.. Leandro Roberto Neves, graduate and master's degree graduate from UNITAU, PhD in Social Psychology from USP and was composed of texts written by: Alen Batista Henriques (UFF); Carlos Alberto Maximum pepper (UNIFEI); Laura Marcondes Ferraz Alcocer (Social Scientist at UFSCAR); Leandro Roberto Neves (UFF); Milena Fernandes Farias (Psychologist at UNITAU); Rossana Maria Papini (UFF); Tiago Luis Castro Scatolini (Biologist).

The event was mediated by Prof. Dr. André Luiz da Silva, professor and deputy coordinator of MDH. featured presentations by the authors: Leandro Neves, Milena Fernandes Farias and Tiago Luis Castro Scatolini. Promoted discussion on interdisciplinarity in the production of knowledge about the impact of disasters on the daily lives of vulnerable populations and reflections on the dimensions of this, which is a complex problem of social reality and interdisciplinary research.
