The urban in question: Critical reflections

Book cover “The urban in question: Critical reflections”

The book “The urban in question” came out: Critical reflections ”organized by Angela Michele Suave, professor of the Master's Program in Human Development and by Kátia Hale dos Santos, professor at the Universities of Santo Amaro, and Rodrigo Dantas Bastos, Legal Advisor in urban planning legislation of the Municipality of São Bernardo do Campo.

The theme addressed emerges from the analysis of society and its current issues that are the result of a socio-historical process. The need to face urban problems arising from the inequality of our socio-historical condition is identified through the understanding of capitalist sociability and for that, a critical analysis of this reality is required, which was the objective of the composition and publication of this book composed of results of research in this direction.

According to Terezinha Ferrari, preface of the book, professor at Centro Universitário Fundação Santo André and researcher and writer in the areas of Sociology of Work, Philosophy of Technique, Urban-cultural Development and Planning:

“The articles in this collection that are now being made public will debate Brazilian cities, the relationship between countryside and city, the analytical keys of several authors who have focused on these and other questions. It is proposed by the organizers to critically broaden the debate, without failing to identify that industrial-financial capitalist globalization has been imposing a large concentration of thousands/millions of people in cities in precarious situations. Like this, the articles gathered here point out urban problems as arising from this socio-historical condition and their authors are willing to face them from the denudation of the nature of this same sociability. This recognition presupposes, first, the criticism of the limits of the immediate political sphere exclusively of an electoral nature, second, to plans that create programs and processes that standardize problems and impose their pseudo-technical solutions, third, theoretical-abstract research that is limited to the academic universe. The proposal suggested by the organizers is to go beyond these limits to also act in the practical-political field, discussing critical reflections capable of encouraging new research and studies in order to sustain and mature another political insertion of everyone involved in the effective overcoming of totality. of the social problems provoked by the sociability of capital”

The book was published by Editora LiberArs and sales are being carried out at the address: https://www.liberars.com.br/o-urbano-em-questao
