UNITAU Extension Projects consolidate alignment with community demands

Balance made by the Dean of Extension (PREX) the University of Taubaté (UNITAU) demonstrates that the vast majority of projects developed by the institution are aligned with the demands presented by communities.

The balance took into account the guidelines sent by the participants of the II UNITAU Forum “For a Better Society”, held in 7 November 2020 with the theme “University and community: partnerships for sustainability”. A paper generated in this second edition of the forum had 26 registered guidelines, of which 19 (73%) were served by the extension projects. Besides that, From 29 extension projects currently in operation, 25 (86%) of them met at least one guideline presented.

Among the extension projects, for example, two of them bring together a total of seven guidelines met in the areas of health and culture.

The “InformaDor” project carries out interventions focused on the prevention and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal pain. Currently serves children, teenagers and adults. At SEDES school, activities to prevent musculoskeletal injuries are carried out with children and adolescents. At UNITAU's Physiotherapy Clinic there is a rehabilitation program for chronic pain patients.

“Informator directly impacts the lives of children to adults. We know that several musculoskeletal complaints lead to physical disability and pain.. Treating and preventing them provides a return to quality of life. Intervention proposals are made after a diagnostic evaluation of these populations, actions are planned and executed according to each reality. Besides that, we work with health education. Information is disseminated from patients to the entire community”, comments the project coordinator, prof. Drag. Alex Sandra Oliveira de Cerqueira Soares.

The project “The culture that is worth: knowing and preserving history, the memory and heritage of Vale do Paraíba” seeks to promote the appreciation of cultural aspects in communities, stimulating, articulating and disseminating the production of knowledge through dialogue with society, developing together with teachers, students and social agents.

“Our project emerged from community demands and continues to act in line with these demands. We worked together to meet the guidelines formalized in the II Extension Forum and we are happy to know that we have achieved this result.. Our work has always been with the community”, complements the coordinator of this project, prof. Drag. Rachel Duarte Abdala.

The same survey applied in the letter of the II Forum will be carried out throughout this year and in the first semester of 2022 by PREX to verify the fulfillment of the demands of the third edition of the event. The III Extension Forum “Unitau for a better society” sought to promote a reflection on health based on the theme “Knowing how to care: the individual, work and community”. THE III Forum took place throughout the months of May and June through channels that allowed contact and reflection with the community, how, for example, the programs on Radio FM UNITAU, content presented by Telegram and Youtube and interactions on Instagram. In day 26 June, the closing event took place with the reading of the Forum letter.

“I consider this survey very important because it demonstrates the ability of the University of Taubaté to listen to the demands presented by the community and to adjust the focus of its projects according to the reality indicated”, says the Dean of Extension, prof. Drag. Leticia Maria Pinto da Costa.
