The event is part of the Heritage Week program and was held on the day 17 of August, National Historical Heritage Day. The chosen location was Vila São Aleixo, patrimônio recentemente restaurado.

The round table was composed by Profa. Rachel Abdala, by Prof. André Bazzanella, head of the Heritage House of IPHAN-Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage in Vale do Paraíba and by architect Letícia Cursino, who works at the Municipal Planning Secretariat and is a member of the Taubaté Municipal Heritage Council, of which Profa. Rachel Abdala já foi presidente.

The round table was mediated by the historiographer from Taubaté City Hall, Fabiana Pazzine Rubim, que atua no Museu Histórico de Taubaté.

The event was attended by students from History courses, Letters, Journalism and Architecture at the University of Taubaté and High School; teachers, like Prof. Dr. André Luiz da Silva, who coordinates together with Profa. What happens when theater students leave the rehearsal room and take the scene to the street? Fear, improvisation, exposure and direct contact with strangers become part of the theatrical experience. Research from the Postgraduate Program in Human Development at the University of Taubaté (Unitau) investigou justamente como essa experiência pode repercutir na formação artística e na percepção de problemas sociais.

The study “Urban staging as a formative practice of social awareness in theater students”, by master's student Denilson Augusto de Campos and advisors Prof.. Dr. Júlio Cesar Voltolini and Profa. Drag. Elisa Brisola, was presented at the VI Brecht and Education Forum, held at the Unesp Arts Institute, em São Paulo.

Participated in the research 11 theater students at Escola Professor Fego Camargo, from Taubaté-SP. They performed nightly performances on an avenue, in front of passersby, addressing topics such as racism, poverty, prejudice and violence. After the experience, os estudantes participaram de um grupo focal para discutir o que haviam vivenciado.

One of the results caught the attention of researchers: when talking about the experience, students rarely referred to theater learning in technical terms. Their reports focused mainly on fear, vulnerability, perception of the environment, memory, corpo e relações sociais.

Theatrical learning appeared indirectly, related to improvisation, to the scenic presence, body construction and expansion of the repertoire. The focus of the testimonies was not just “what I learned about theater”, mas principalmente “o que vivi na rua enquanto fazia teatro”.

The experience also provoked reflections on the relationship between values ​​and actions. The students realized that defending certain agendas in protected environments is different from acting in concrete conflict situations, violence or vulnerability. O medo e a autopreservação muitas vezes se sobrepõem aos valores que afirmam defender.

Another result was the expansion of the perspective on socially invisible people, like those in a situation of hunger, pobreza e exclusão.

Gender differences, race and sexuality also influenced the way students experienced the street. While cis women especially emphasized physical fear and vulnerability, cis men highlighted internal conflicts and difficulties in acting in real situations. Students with non-normative gender identities and sexualities emphasized the invisibility of people who are not seen, reconhecidas ou escutadas no cotidiano.

For researchers, the urban staging proved to be, like this, more than a theater learning strategy. By putting students in direct contact with unpredictable situations and issues present in everyday life, the experience created conditions for reflection on one’s own body, os próprios medos e a maneira de perceber os outros e a sociedade.

The theater, in this context, deixa de ser apenas uma representação da realidade e passa a ser também uma experiência de encontro com ela.

Biology students at the University of Taubaté (UNITAU) participated, in the days 24 e 25 of April, of a scientific initiation activity in Trabiju Park, in Pindamonhangaba. The action was coordinated by Prof.. Dr. Julio Cesar Voltolini and brought together undergraduate students, Master's degree in Human Development, professores e até crianças da rede pública.

During the two days, participants developed field studies focusing on comparing different areas of the Atlantic Forest. One of the regions analyzed has the greatest human impact, with vegetation in the process of regeneration after agricultural use in the past. The other area has more preserved characteristics, com floresta mais desenvolvida.

In both environments, students carried out activities such as bird censuses, analysis of tree size and observation of environmental factors, such as climate and light. The proposal was to bring students closer to scientific practice, permitindo a aplicação direta dos conhecimentos adquiridos em sala de aula.

According to the responsible teacher, the activity also contributes to student engagement throughout the course. “This activity, in addition to having the teaching aspect, also covers research and extension. Thus, students can experience, in practice, these three fundamental axes of the university”, destaca.

The program also included trails, field activities and overnight stay on site, proporcionando uma experiência imersiva aos participantes.

The initiative reinforces the importance of practical activities in academic training, especially in courses with a strong theoretical basis. By providing experiences in real study environments, a Universidade amplia o aprendizado dos alunos e fortalece o vínculo entre conhecimento científico e aplicação prática.

Besides that, the action highlights the role of university extension in involving different audiences and bringing the university closer to the community, contribuindo para a formação de profissionais mais preparados e conectados com a realidade.

Gabi Kariri develops research focused on indigenous didactics in teacher training, com foco em retomadas linguísticas e educação étnico-racial.

Belonging to Kariri ethnicity, the researcher works in the teaching and study of indigenous languages, with an emphasis on the languages ​​of the Tupi trunk and the resumption of the Dzubukuá-Kipeá language. Its work includes the production of teaching materials, além da realização de oficinas e palestras sobre educação decolonial e valorização das culturas originárias.

Graduated in Literature (Português) from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Gabi Kariri has also developed research with support from CNPq and the Portuguese Language Museum, ampliando sua atuação no campo das línguas indígenas e das práticas pedagógicas.

During the meeting, the researcher addressed the topic “Indigenous influences on the language, Brazilian culture and literature”, promovendo a reflexão sobre a presença e a importância dos saberes originários na formação cultural do país.
